Hi , Maureen , Why not try ringing the office at the crematorium in Hartlepool? The lady there is very good , I've rang her a couple of times and she always gave the correct info . If the records are alphabetical then you will have your answer in a tick . The number is 01429 274517 , I would give them a try . Regards Joyce

Susan THANK YOU!! I 've only looked on that site for ten mins and already I've found the death dates of six aunts and uncles! Andrew Hill isn't on there but the others have made up for that. You should feel well pleased with yourself for taking the time to help someone.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I'm just about to try the free trial on ancestry, thanks for that info. Michelle, thanks for your offer, I often go to the library but have lost track of Andrew Hill after the 1901 census. I really want to get his death certificate but think its a bit much to ask the registrar to search from 1901 without any idea of when he died. My friend has advised me to try Stranton cemetery to search their records but I'm usually at work when they are open so that will have to wait a bit.

Hi Maureen, Do you know that there is a free trial on for ancestry at the moment, running until the end of the month I believe. You can access the 1871, 1891 and some of the 1901 Census and also their BMD records and much more. Here is the website. http://trials.galegroup.com/pubacd/index.html The name to type in is pubacd17. (Don't forget the full stop after 17) The password is durable Click on Biography - Genealogy, then AncestryPlus, then UK and Ireland Records. Best wishes Rose

Feel free Maureen. I will see what I can find out for you. Re Jarrow/S.Shields - geography isn't my strongest point but is Jarrow maybe in South Shields? or are they two separate places?

Hiya Sue, and thanks for your offer of help. Its my G.Granda Andrew Hill. I have him on the 1881 census living in West Hartlepool and saying he was born in South Shields in about 1852. I have also seen the 1891 census but he said on there that he was born in Jarrow. What I'm really after is any info after he moved to West Hartlepool. I have his marriage to Jane Burns in Aug 1881. I really need to find when he died so I can see his cause of death. If you dont mind me mailing you I'll explain this. Maureen

Before I join Ancestry can anyone tell me if there are any Durham records on there? I've had a quick look and Durham wasn't on the drop down menu. Thanks
