Can anyone tell me the names of any graveyards in Barrow? Im trying to find a death of my Great nan but Ive looked on 1837 online and cant find any record. I though I might have more luck contacting the graveyards/cemetaries to look at their records Thanks Anna :-)

Anna, there is a graveyard/crematorium on Devonshire Road in Barrow in Furness but I don't know the name of it. I will ask my husband later as his family are from that area. Sarah

Hi Anne, A list that might be helpful for research in this area is: UK-ULVERSTON-FHS-L-request (ATsign) rootsweb(.)com. The research assistant at the Barrow Records office often has a tip or two to add and I'm sure the knowledgable people on the list would be only too glad to help out with any queries. Regards Barbara

Hi Anna It is quite old, so the years you mention should be there. I've e-mailed you separately. Regards Patricia

Anna, not sure if you've got the info you were looking for yet but I have checked with my husband and he said the cemetry is historic and he is not aware of any other sites in the Barrow. Hope this helps and good luck. Sarah

I live in Barrow-in-Furness and there is a main cemetary (Thorncliffe Crematorium) which is where all cremations are today carried out and acts as the main one in the area. However there is also a small graveyard on Walney Island at St. Mary's Church, and also at St. Michael's Church, Rampside. I have e-mailed you personally

Anna, if you have access to an LDS Family History Center, there are 2 films for burieals in Barrow. One is Roman Catholic and one is Church of England. Jack
