Thanks to everyone for their help - it looks like I will have to wait until I retire and then spend some time in Norfolk and knock down all my brick walls !!!

Christine, Regarding Worthamwresham, I'm certain there has been another query regarding this, maybe on the Records Office Boards, just trying searching but nothing came up. Sure it had something to do with a name before the town, so name(poss registrar?) Wortham town Wresham. Perhaps put a thread on the records board, the same people may respond with the answer. Sorry my memory isn't better Rgds Di

Hi Christine, If there are no batch numbers, the information has probably ben submitted by a member of the LDS Church. It may be correct, or it may be a guess. Some transcripts for particular Parishes in particular years may be online, but as Brenda says, you really need to see the original- or at least a microfilm or microfiche of it, as found in most County Record offices, and in quite a lot of the larger libraries for their local areas. Regards Stan

Have checked the IGI for both Timothy and Mary and there are no numbers on the bottom to do the additional search - how do I go about checking the actual record - are there any records on-line or is a physical check necessary?

Hi Christine None of the info for Norfolk on the IGI is from original records. It looks as if you've got a cousin out there! Brenda

From 1753, you get the signatures (or marks) of both parties and the signatures (or marks) of at least two witnesses. Whether the following additional information is actually correctly recorded depends very much on who is writing the register, but you should get: condition of the parties ie singleman, singlewoman, widower or widow, the parish they come from and whether they married by banns or licence. If they married by licence and the allegation or bond survives, you may find out their ages, occasionally occupations and names of parents if they were underage. It's ALWAYS worth looking at the original. Brenda

Hi Christine, It took me hours of searching individual names before I found out that if you click on the batch number i.e.C123456 at the bottom of your results page it brings up a different search. This number is for a particular town or village for a set number of years i.e 1850 - 1901 put in the surname of your search the country and leave in that batch number and it will give you all the names for that period in that place. If you just search by using the batch number and country you will get the names of all the people in that town/villiage for the set period. If you change the 'C' to an 'M' and leave in the original number your will get up all the marriages. I do hope you understand as this means of searching has speeded up my research 100% Good Luck Ros

Thanks Judy - yes I already have this - wish I could work out where Worthamwresham was or is - wondered if father's name or witness names were on parish records

I have the record of the marriage of Timothy Bales to Mary Clarke from the IGI - would the parish record give any further information or would it just show the two names?
