If an ancestor is shown as being on an Ancestral File on the LDS site - can I access it and if so - how?

Hi Mags, If you click on where it says "submitter", it will often give you an address. Don,t forget though, some of those are quite old.

Hi, Be very wary of ancestral files. The LDS encouraged members to guess at dates and places and none of the information is checked. Two of my Suffolk families are on ancestral files and a lot of the information is bogus. Gwynne

As Gwynne says, Be very wary and use the information as a possible lead but check parish registers etc. We have seen a file showing children born to parents that we know died several years previously!

Hello. Thanks for your input. This is a relative on my husband's side of the family. his great grandfather's brother but haven't yet 'tied' him in. Born 1866 so parentage can easily be checked but his certificate is a long way down the list! By 1894 he was in Ingham, Australia, that's where his 4th child was born according to IGI. Since he had 10 children there are probably living descendants. It would be nice to explore the Australian connection. If I am not able to double check an entry on my tree - I generally mention the fact that it hasn't been checked or put 'believed to be' etc. Nothing is put on my tree until the piece of puzzle fits as snugly as it can . Thanks again, Magsx
