I am new to Genes Re united, so please all forgive me. Got back to around 1900's. Where is the best place to look for the above if you don't have many relatives alive that could help you? Many Regards Emma Proctor E-Mail: [email protected]

Emma Try the 1901 census first and then work back from there. Alternatively, post some details here and we will be able to help you further. Lynne

Hi On your home page there should be a link to the Resources page which has lots of useful links and ideas. UKBMD is a very good website of well-organised links. I've found quite a lot of useful stuff by putting combinations of name(s)/place(s)/date(s) into a search engine. It hasn't been my main source but has turned up some critical bits of info and some relevant family-tree sites. good hunting Christine

Emma Birth marriage death (BMD) - free site FreeBMD will have some of your relatives. Before 1837, parish registers have bmd info - some of these on www.familysearch.org Details about what people were doing/where they were living are on censuses, which are taken every 10 years. The latest available is 1901. 1891, 71 are on Ancestry.com. The 1881 census is available free on familysearch as above. Censuses from 1841- onwards are at the Family Record Centre in London together with BMDs from 1837. Local record offices also have censuses, electoral registers, parish records etc etc. nell
