Hi I found the 1655 probate copy of my gt-x10-grandfather's 1653 Will on this site. It gave us the name of his wife, which we hadn't had before. If you have trouble understanding the script or want more info, it's worth clicking on the "Research Tools" link in the left-hand bar of the site. There's some useful stuff there. If you have a look at the sample Wills, the extra practice at reading the old script gives you a better chance. Sometimes a different context makes something fall into place. good hunting Christine

I found a father and it lists in his will all his children and the women's spouses , and you get an address and this was 1834 so it's taken me past the 1841 census. Its also worth checking out the ww1 medal list if you haven't yet. It's not complete but well woth a look. Kim

On the first page about halfway down it comes up in blue in the middle of a paragraph "SEarch the Wills" Click on the blue writing. 2. You should then come up with some search boxes. I just put in Surname and rough area e.g Johnson 3. in the box a bit further down I think it says area or county put in eg "Sussex" then presse search or enter . 4. You should then get a list of names and dates of wills in the area you require . 5 If any are relevant you click on them it will ask you if you want to download or add to basket or something like that if you do you have to enter your email address and fill ccard details. 6.Then it will ask if you have Adobe Acrobat,( download if you havent.) 7. Then you can view the document, be warned though they are handwritten and usu ally in "Solicitor speak" ,so be prepared to enlarge (the percentage +/- in the magnifier glass at the top) and spend some time fathoming them out. Some copies are not brilliant either, but £3.50 isn't much, when they give so much info. hope this helps Kim

WAs very excited today as just discovered wills online and found one of my ancestors. The will is virtually unreadable in parts, but has tied up some of the addresses and spouses for me that I had question marks on. If you haven't tried it give it a go . Also has some ww1 medal lists. http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ It costs about £3.50 to download to your pc ,but it was well worth it Kim
