Thanks Kim. Thinking about it, if his mother died the year before the 1841 census, maybe he was taken in by another family. |

You will find children leave home very early some 11 or 12 , girls often went into service at this age. if he was illegitimate maybe she could not afford to look after him (no single parents benefits then :) and he was taken in as a lodger by someone else, or family. Kim |

I am looking for Jane Foot. I found her son Joseph Foot (lodger) on the census at age 14, but when I visited the record centre I was not aware of his mothers name. I now learn that he was base born (1826) and I am trying to trace her parents. There is a death record for Kingsbridge for 1840, but if she is on the census I will persue later records. Another mystery is why he would be lodging so young? |
