Thanks everybody! You've all been so helpful. So I'll print off all your suggestions and work on them. The tip about Tribal Pages is good too. Thank you.

if you cannot delate a person because of offspring, go in aon "edit" and change all their details t othe correct ones - ie the ones of your great grandmother instead of the grandmother. When you have finsihed altering them all, you will be left probably with one that is wrong . Type that in as unknown and correct when you have full details confirmed. kim

Dorothy, I haven't had to delete anyone yet but sure I will at sometime. The only way to delete someone is to delete their offspring first. The idea being you can't have kids if you never exist. I would build your tree elsewhere and then import it. If you have broadband but you don't have the software to build a tree with I found Tribal Pages very easy to enter data on. You also have the advantage of not having to back up the data as its stored by them on their site. Good luck Janet

I have tried to delete: but I just keep getting told that this can't be done because 'this person has offspring'. So at the moment my greatgrandfather is married to my grandmother, and I just cannot get it altered. I can't even recollect now how it happened, which was a few weeks ago, and I lost patience with it then, and returned to it last night in the hope that with the new upgrade of the site, there would be a way of correcting it. So I now have my grandmother entered as a child to my gtgrandfather and as a wife! And I cannot get it put right! So I think the only thing is to abandon this tree and use another program.

It's easy to delete the whole tree, except for yourself, in one go. Click on Import/Export in the left menu, then click on the underlined words - Delete Your Tree. Patricia

Dorothy, I have had no problem deleting details that I had got wrong and changing what I had guessed to what I got eventually was able to work on as fact using written stuff (certs etc.,)Iguessed where and when people where born and then when receiving written prof changed the details. When you are in your family tree and going through individuals it has stuff up the top such as edit, delete so I do not understand how you are having trouble. I deleted a member of my family because I realised I had made a very silly mistake the person was still alive and I had not asked permission, as it says you should have. You click on any individual you want to change the options of what you want to do next comes up. I suggest you try again any problems you will find Genes are excellent in helping you out. Good luck Pat x

Thanks Dwain, that's what I had concluded I must do. I am just so annoyed that this site makes it so difficult....don't they realise that people WILL make errors, or, as they find out more confirmed details, things might need changing, after all we all know this genealogy thing is rarely an exact science. Thanks for your help: looks like I'll give up on trying to build a tree on here.

Have been trying to get my tree together and making, with GR's help, rather a mess of it. Trouble is my mother's family name is Campbell and all of the direct relations have been ALEXANDER!!! Pressing the 'Click here for help' does NOTHING! I need to delete some of the mess, because I have 2 or 3 Alexanders all married to a woman of the same name!!! H E L P!! GR won't let me do any deletions: presumably they work on the principle that we all know exactly what to do the first time!! WRONG! How can I undo this mess, if GR won't help or allow it?
