Karen, Just to update you, Vestry contacted me. The house was renumbered 77, Winchester Road sometime after 1902. My great uncle had moved by then. Have a photograph of my aunts (his nieces) in "Win Road-1933". Presume its the same place but different house. Thank you for all your help. Viv

In case others have this problem, quite often a section or terrace on a road would have a name as though it were a separate road. My Matthews family lived at 13 Hornsey Road in Holloway. All the certificates say so, apart from one where a child was born at "Ingram Place". Five weeks later he died at 13 Hornsey Road. I looked up Ingram Place in old street names of London - nothing. I wondered whether my gt grandmother would have given birth at a friend's house? Finally I found Ingram Place in the Kelly's Directory for the year after this event. The Directory was at the FRC and I was looking for an idea of where no. 13 would have been. Ingram Place was a group of houses on Hornsey Road which included no. 13. Mystery solved! If you are trying to trace an address in London, Kelly's Directory is a good tool. If you've got an address outside London, try seeing the addresses immediately before and after your entry to see what the adjacent roads were called - they might still exist if your's doesn't. nell

Karen and Maz, You have made my day. Been rather a rotton one. Could you have a look for me and see if its still there? If you don't have time no problems. Also thank you for the road. Another member gave me the info of the address from 1901 census but no road name. Thank you both, again. Viv

Hi Viv, I live round the corner from Karen!! A lot of the older streets here have a section of houses in them labelled "xxx villas" or "xxxx terrace". Is there not a street name on the census - try looking on the preceding pages too, sometimes the ennumerator put it just at the beginning of the street and then not on any of the following pages. Vestry house are very good! Maz. XX

I wonder if anyone knows how I would find the following address (map) for 1901 and if the place is still standing now in 2004? All I have is the address from the 1901 census..... 2, Isabella Villas, Walthamstow where my great uncle Robert A Tucker (photographer) lived with his wife Eleanor and a servant. Any ideas? Viv
