I have been trying to find evidence of marriage for John Pursey b1837 and Mary Ann Harwood b1843/5 of Frimley whose first child I believe was born 1865 Mary Ann. I cannot get back further on the Pursey line yet because I cannot trace this marriage. John was born City of london according to the census, but I'm not sure what area that would have been or whether it would have been the same as today. If family are to be believed he was illegitimate , but I've no idea where they married either , except they don't seem to have married in the Wife's parish of Elvetham or in Frimley where they lived. There first child was born Farnham and their second in Staines, but have scourd 1837 online to no avail. Some kind people in this site have found them on the census and helped me on the Harwood line , but I'm still no further back with this one. Any help would be appreciated, have found lots of Pursey's but unable to connect. Kim

Surely you need to find John on the 1841 census, when he would be 4, and presumably living with his mother or some other family member? nell

City of London literally meant the parishes within the old city walls, though I suppose if he was giving this information later in life and in a place other than London he may have been referring to other inner London parishes Judith

There are so many John Pursey's and without knowing other family members names it's proving hard. My grandmother thinks he had a younger brother william or Bill who was a builder but is not sure when he was born either. The rest of my tree seems to go fine and i keep coming back to this question mark.... The earliest iv'e found John is married in 1871 census. I've got Mary Ann in 1841 but not John. I don't know if his surname was changed to Pursey from Percy etc... I don't even know where he would have lived , could be anywhere in Surrey/Sussex/hampshire or London. Kim
