If you know the adopted persons original name and how they were adopted ie through Social Services or Adoption Agency, then you could approach either to leave message that you want contact. Also registering with NORCAP (don't know how much that costs). Think its easier if you were the adopted person as you could then have access to your file and information within it. However due to the data protection I don't think other interested parties are allowed access. Things to try though are: Lookupuk*com - have an adoption section and Adoption Match - Search message board and/or leave message. Missing-you*net - leave a message Friends Reunited - see if they're registered in original name or leave message on Trying to Find. Genes Reunited - include person in your family tree (shouldn't violate rules as the name doesn't exist anymore). Perhaps Rootsweb surname message board too. Does family member have any other details that might help? There's a possibility that child may have emigrated under the child migrant scheme to Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Also later in 60's under £10 assisted passage scheme. You may find that this person has been trying to find their family too and you may find a message on a board somewhere.

Dilys If you go to the home page of this site, there is a section under Genealogy Resources - scroll down to find it - called "Getting Started" - it has a section on adoption. I think you need to contact Social Services for the area concerned. nell

How would I go about finding an adopted baby (now 50+) originally from the Birmingham area? I have a message on the 'Trying to Find Board' but nothing so far..........
