Hi have been on the scotlandspeople site which is terrific but now I need to look in Westminster Birmingham and Fulham is there a similar site where I can look online and pay as I go thanks a lot thanks a lot will look on there

If you mean to see the original certificates, NO! You can only access sites which give the reference details for the certificates, such as FreeBMD (free but incomplete) and 1837.com (which is complete but costs). nell

The main difference is that the law in Scotland is different from the law in England and Wales. I have been told that there are moves afoot to get some kind of relaxation for supply of record-images (as in Scotspeople) which would have no legal force, but it will take an Act of Parliament, I believe. UKBMD is a very useful site with comprehensive and well-organised links. It doesn't get round the problem of having to buy full BMD certs at £7 each, but it makes it as easy as poss to find a way of finding a place to get the cert and what the appropriate reference is. It has lots of links to sites with local census data, parish records etc. I haven't found it to be able to come up with sites I wish were there but aren't! - it doesn't stop me looking. good hunting Christine
