If a woman was married....then got pregnant to her husband, but he died before the birth...would she still be allowed to enter him as Father on the baby's birth cert?? Sue xx

I don't know for certain but feel surely yes. Think of all the women whose husbands went to war never to return surely they would have been able to put the husbands name down. I'll be interested to hear too if anyone knows for sure. Diane

I agree with you Diane. I wonder if they could as long as they could prove they were married Sue xx

As far as I know, one's husband is regarded as the father of all one's children unless you state the contrary. "If a mother was widowed before the birth of her legitimate baby the entry will show (deceased) after fathers name." From http://home.clara*.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd*.htm remove * first. nell

Yes, definitely she could put the husband's name down. After all, she'd turn up at the Registrar's with a ring on her finger and wearing whatever mourning clothes her purse would run to. Parish registers will often record posthumous children. Authorities do start to get sniffy, however, if they know that the husband has been dead or absent for more than nine months.... Brenda
