Margaret I have checked 1837 0nline as I had some credits left. No Albert Gray Hackney or even Albert Hackney, no Albert (Gray) Hockney either and no Caroline Warne for September quarter 1881. so, sorry that wasn't much help. Ann Glos

It actually says [39]88 which means 388 or 988 in the transcriber's opinion. However, I cannot find a Hackney marriage for that quarter with a lower number than 710 or higher than 950. It definitely isn't 388 and probably isn't 988 in my opinion. The images for that quarter are not indexed on FreeBMD, so it may take a bit of searching to check it.

I can't remember if I have any credits left but if you tell me the name (first and second names), the registration district and the quarter I will look to see if I have any credits and if i have I will look for you. By the way, have you checked both names for the marriage? Ann Glos

Sorry Margaret I meant 1837 0nline. But if you have not got any credits it probably isn't worth paying out £5 for. ann Glos

Hi Margaret Could you go to Free BMD site on the search page type in first the volume number then the first page number that will reveal the whole page you can then see if the name you have is there , if not repeat with the second page number that may help, Hope you understand that David

I think Geoff is right - the transcriber probably couldn't work out the number and put in two possibilties. FreeBMD have some original images online now - have you checked to see if the one you are looking for is there? Failing that, as you know most of the information, you could try posting a request for someone to check the original indexes at the FRC.

I would put the name on this board so that someone could check. I wonder if the transcriber couldn't decide if it was 388 or 398? The correct transcription for that would however be 3[89]8

AnninGlos Report 23 Aug 2004 12:27

I think I would put exactly that, vol for the first number and page both second numbers. Have you checked that 1837 has the same? Ann Glos
