It sounds as if you have looked at the actual marriage register, and that (presumably) the three couples' marriages are consequtive [sic]. If that is the case, it looks as if the vicar was late sending in the June entries, or put the wrong date in the register, so he sent your couple's entry in twice. It is, after all, only a copy. There does not appear to have been any quality control over what was submitted. There is a book written by a guy in NZ who analysed the GRO indexes and the errors he found would make your hair curl. They include marriages being submitted up to a year late. Brenda

Gen, I see what you mean. There are two different transcribers you could try and click on their names and check, it also says if you have any corrections etc., to click here same page. I have had some entries transcribed twice but not different quarters, it might be something to do with the way this entry was sent to FreeBMD data base. Sorry I cannot help more. Just a thought............ I am presuming they must be the same couple? maybe they married twice once in registery office then decided on a church wedding???well's its just a thought. Pat x

I have a William Lay who marries a Sarah Price in 1872, there is the marriage entered on freebmd in AMJ 5a/12 the marriage took place on July 27th 1872 and there is another entry JAS 5a/7 I have checked out the other 2 couple and have got their marriage dates. Does anyone have any ideas why this marriage was entered twice, the first time even before the marriage took place? Not only that but even though William married Sarah I cannot find her on any census at all, he is down as married but is with his parents in 1881 and has a housekeeper in 1891. Any suggestions gratefully recieved. Gen
