Hi Sian, I have written all that down and will look it up. Won't be back from holiday til mid September so don't worry if you don't hear back straight away! I'll leave you a message on the board when I am back from holiday. Sal

Hi Helen & Sally thanks for your help. Sally I would be extremely grateful if you could look up my great grandfathers obituary Stephen Vincent died Sept Quarter 1948 age 76, probably died in Jarrow. I dont have his death cert yet but the registration is 1a 290 Durham. I am very interested in who are the mourners, the main mourners would be his wife Esther Caroline (Lena) Vincent and numerous children but what I am desparate to find out if he had any brothers, sisters or cousins. Thanks Sally, Sian

Hi Sian, The local libraries are very helpful. You are probably looking for the South Shields Gazette or the Evening Chronicle. If it is a quick search you are after, I may be able to help. I'm going home for my hols and have an appointment at South Shields library to view the Gazette archives. I don't mind doing a quick search for you--email me if you like. Sal

Sian I think your best bet would be to contact: Newcastle Local Studies Centre www.*newcastle*.gov*.uk remove * first or South Tyneside Central Library, South Shields www.*s-tyneside-mbc*.gov*.uk or Tyne & Wear Archives Service www.*thenortheast.*com/archives/ remove * first. I'm sure at least one of these places will have the old papers on microfilm. Happy hunting, nell
