William Just to expand on that a bit, this is from "Old Occupations" "Driver of (horse-drawn) vehicles for transporting goods. Carmen were often employed by railway companies for local deliveries and collections of goods and parcels. Modern day van driver. Also sometimes someone who drove horse-drawn trams was called a Carman. " nell |

hi william a carman was a driver of a horsedrawn vehicle. also they were often employed by railways for delivering goods i hope this helps susie |

Hi there,have just received my great-granfathers wedding certificate and it says his trade or profession as a carman? Anyone out there know exactly what this was?Thanks,Bill. |
