Hi Zoe It's ALWAYS worth looking at the original. Even if you have a GRO certificate. 1) to check there were no mistakes 2) to see the signatures, or how they made their mark. 3) to find out who the witnesses were. Even if it was the parish clerk, the original would show whether he witnessed every marriage, or only those where they could not muster a witness of their own. Brenda

You only get father's names after 1837 registration - before that you had witnesses who could be anyone.

Zoe Are you sure the original registers still exist? A lot of the marriages Pallot indexed were from registers that have been destroyed. As to what info would be on them if they are still around, you will only find out by looking whether its worth it or not! nell

I have a marriage in pallots Marriage and I hope to go and view the registers next week. Is it worth the journey? Is their a possibility that the registers will give me a bit more info such as fathers?
