Hi Margaret...just thought of something you may not have tried...when Poole is written down it could look like 'Pode' so try having a looking under that name. Recently my Henry Conner was found under the surname Corner and Comer and German ancestors called Bumb were Bomb and Bump!!....to add insult to injury, when they changed their name to Boom they showed up as Boon on a number of occasions!! Hope that helps Aileenx

Margaret, Have you tried all variations of the name. You'll probably think I'm mad, but sometimes, I lookat where they came from and say their name in that accent!! Particularly if they moved from say Cornwall to Lancashire (as a lot of tin miners did) the poor Lancastrian ennumerator would have to write down what was said in a stong cornish accent, and if the name was, say Truran,(not a common name in Lancashire) it would come to his ears as Troon, Trewin, Trewan, Truin etc. - anything but Truran!!!!! Worth a go Maggie

Bren from Oldham

Bren from Oldham Report 19 Aug 2004 22:41

Although some of my Marquand family appear on Guernsey census records there is scant evidence in the 1850/70's of any of the children having being baptised or their births being registered except for the 2 youngest sons and they appear on the IGI. Also my gt gt grandmother is named on my illegitimate gt grandmothers baptism record , there is no evidence of her being born, getting married, death, arriving at /or leaving Guernsey I also have a gt grandfather who never appears on any census records although his wife and children do. and when he dies in the workhouse infirmary there is only his date of death and no date of admission Bren

There seems to be a long list of people who were apparently beamed down to earth from a spaceship. Maybe we are all descended from these aliens really!!!
