Brenda We have received this email at least 20 times over the last few weeks. When it first came in my husband contacted NTL and they said the same, it wasn't from them. We are now getting emails form various people telling us we are sending out virus mail to others and our Anti-Virus tells us they contain a virus! Someone even suggested we have a Backdoor Trojan Horse!! Anti-Virus says we have no virus so cannot understand why we keep getting these messages! We are getting a new computer at the weekend so hopefuly the problem will go away. Lynne

Lynne, This is what's known as "spoofing", sometimes a virus will send itself out using an email adrdess it's pulled from an infected PC's addressbook - doesn't mean it's your PC thats infected, i's just "pretending" to be from you. Hope that made sense. Paul

phew back on track i panicked this morning and ran every virus check i could started running these before i phoned ntl and found it was a hoax. the message did say i had been sending spam too. i get a lot of pleasure from this computer and i dont pretend to know anything about them (silly old woman) so grateful to judy in the states for all her useful advice which luckily i had printed off. just going to do a disk clean up and i should be in good health. x

I received the same email, telling me my email address was being used to send out spam and that my PC had been infected with the program to do this, so I should follow the instructions on the attachment. My anti-virus program told me it contained a virus, so I was pretty sure it hadn't really come from ntl. I checked on their website (can't find it now) and found a warning that someone is sending these out, pretending to be from ntl, in order to spread the virus. The blurb in the email about your PC already being infected is just to lure you into opening the attachment, which of course contains the virus! The moral of the story is - keep your anti-virus protection up-to-date! Carole

The other moral is DO NOT FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTION IN AN UNSOLICITED E_MAIL.
