Some time ago, I found out that my Great Grandmother had three more siblings than we thought. My Mum always knew her Nan had an older sister, but through my research I have found out she had a younger brother and two younger sisters too. The children's Mother died when the smallest girls were only 3 and 5 years old and their Father passed away a few years later. So where did they go? They didn't live with their older siblings and my Mum's Nan never, ever mentioned them. I have trawled through 1837 online looking for death or marriage records, but drew a blank. Anyway, it was costing me an arm and a leg. I suddenly had an idea that they might have emmigrated, and lo and behold, I found one of the younger sisters on the Ellis Island site for a ship that sailed to New York in 1922. I can't tell you how pleased I am. All the information fits: name, age, place of birth, and the fact that her address in England is that of some foster parents. It must be her, surely? Now what do I do? The Ellis site gives the name and address of the friend she was to stay with in the States, so that could be a start. But, how can I check to see when and if she married, and find out if I have any relatives out there. Sorry to ramble on, but I had to tell you all. Any ideas?? |

Hello Deb I have had a quick look myself, and there was nothing too obvious, but another set of eyes looking might help: ANNIE GRAHAME Born: November 1900 in Durham, England. Sailed on the 'Scythia' arriving in New York on 15 July 1922, aged 22. Address in US: Mrs Edwards, 582 Bridge Street, Lowell, Mass. Thank you very much for your help. |
