Does anyone know if coroners reports or inquests are available? the area i am interested in is Darlington 1846. Chrissy.

Chrissy The bad news is that coroners' reports are sometimes routinely destroyed. But you might be lucky. The National Archives has information here: www.catalogue*.nationalarchives*.gov*.uk/RdLeaflet*.asp?sLeafletID=175 remove * first. Where they survive, they tend to be in local record offices. Another avenue to explore in the case of sudden or unexplained death is to see if there was a local newspaper report about it. Nell

Hi Chrissy, just the other week I got a death certificate with an inquest held although the the records had been destroyed I got a full report from the local paper at the time and it was very well reported Good luck Margaret

County libraries sometimes have old newspapers for their area too.
