If you have found an ancestor on the IGI and the record is from a parish record, not added after 1991, then there should be a list of batch numbers at the bottom of the page. These numbers will apply only to this parish and type of event - baptism etc. You can write the batch number down but it is easy to confuse zeros and o s so if you click on the batch number it takes you back to the IGI search page with the batch number filled in for you. IF you then click search you will get all the recorded events in that batch useful for finding who else lived in your area. BUT if you type in the surname you are interested in and then search you will get all the events in that batch for you family name. If you get tired of trying to find brothers and sisters by clicking on people you could on the search page fill in the father's name (first will do) and if you are feeling brave the mother's (again only first) but it will not pick up if Phoebe is spelt Phebe. If you want to find the batch number for a particular parish the best idea is to use hughwallis's site but as it is a long address just type in hughwallis into google and it will come up with it. I use batch numbers a lot so ask away. Linda

Go to the IGI search page. Enter the surname you are searching for. Select British Isles from Region, type your batch number in the box below and press Search. Geraldine
