Has anyone any experience of accessing the records - if they exist - of births to members of their staff serving in India in the mid 1800s.

Kenneth According to Mark Herber's book "Ancestral Trails", and I quote: "Church ministers' or chaplains' registers...of bapisms, marriages and burials (and sometimes births and deaths) were sent to the EIC offices in London and later to the India Office. Indexes are in class Z/N of the India Office collections. . . Most of the registers are indexed, either in the biographical index or in separate indexes for each series. The information in the registers is similar to that contained in English parish registers and civil registration records". The India Office collections are at the British Library. Additionally, there are various EIC records at The National Archives. I imagine it is worth checking the overseas section of the GRO as well. Nell

I went through the British library, I found a list of marriages and births on the rootsweb india chat, then sent in a email the folio number. The next day through email they sent the marriage certificate. But I wanted a proper one so they sent me one but it cost £18.
