There probably isn't anything wrong with the system. Some of the very early threads do occasionally get thrown up by people unaware of the last post date. Some of the posters on those have the same configuration - no posts and a silly 'member since' date.

Derek's certainly seems to valid.............. if his account is still linked to the same email address, he is able to access his account, et, etc.
...........

When I was reading the OP, it brought to mind something which is totally resolvent to the original topic.

An acquaintance was told by her OH on the Thursday that they were both expected to travel to Plymouth Hoe to represent the CWGC at last years Remembrance Sunday celebrations. She was extremely 'miffed' at the short notice, to say the least!

Is there something wrong with GR today? Or maybe it's just my system?

But Derek's account must still be valid?

Derek, the Joseph Kayes that was on board the HMS Pheasant when it was sunk is not the same person as Joseph Reginald Sylvester Kayes born 1883. The Joseph Kayes on the Pheasant was my great uncle who was born 1884 in Wavertree Liverpool, his mother was Elizabeth Kayes Nee Crossley, and his wife was Rhoda Webb Lampshire

Derek Not that it might make any difference, but his date of death is in fact 1 March 1917 (as per CWGC website info). It also gives his mother's name and domicile as Wavertree, Liverpool. Does that help? Guess you might need to check 1837 online for J Kayes marriages to see if this sailor's marriage is in addition to your J kayes marriage. The HMS Pheasant J Kayes will have his service reords at the National Archives. A sensitive question - a sailor with a wife in every port - maybe he married twice? Please don't punch me on the nose for thinking the unthinkable! Ian

Derek As your grandfather had such a splendid array of christian names, I would have thought any official records of him would have at least included the initials. If he isn't the HMS Pheasant chap, then he wouldn't have remarried? Nell

Thanks, Nell. No,I don't think the Pheasant sailor is my grandad, but to be sure, I'd like to find more info about him. I have marriage cert for my grandad, birth cert for my mother, but on the Cwgc report it says, he is married to someone else in Devonport, and yet his ship went down with all hands in 1916 which did not leave him much time to get away from my gran and remarry. I will try TNA on line, not that I've ever found much there. Hope this is clearer. One thing I did not add, my gran and mother never mentioned him, to my knowledge. Thanks again, Derek in France

Derek I'm confused. You say that you don't think the HMS Pheasant sailor is your grandad because he was married? Then you say your grandad was lost when HMS Pheasant went down? As you know your grandad's birth year, have you got his birth cert which would say where in Liverpool he was born and give his parents' names? You could use this to find the family on the 1901 census (and trace his parents back to 1891/1881 etc). His marriage cert would give info about his bride's maiden name and her father's occupation. I believe information about HMS Pheasant and other naval records are at The National Archives. This may well have info about your grandfather, but might be difficult to locate. Have a look on TNA website for details. Nell

I see from Cwgc that at the Hoe there is a monument to missing seamen, something like 24,000 plus. I have found a Joseph Kayes in Cwgc, who with the aid of his age could be my grandfather, although the addition of a wife blows it away. He married my gran in 1912 and a daughter,my mum, was born aug 1916. His ship HMS Pheasant disappeared without trace in 1916 (since found in Orkneys). No known history of my grandad, other than he was Liverpool born. I would like to find out more and if necessary elliminate from my search, the sailor on HMS Pheasant, but any idea how? PS my grandads full name was Joseph Reginald Sylvester Kayes. Born 1883
