I know I am being a bit dense, but it is late and the grey matter not firing on all cylinders at the mo!! I have read the FAQs section on linking trees, and have read thru previous messages too, but I still can't get my head round what actually happens if you choose the option to link to a contact's tree. Can someone PLEASE explain it to me in simple terms - words of 3 syllables or less please ;) lol...........

Anne, This is what I think happens!! Yes it is late and the old cells don't work quite as well at this time of day!! If you find a name in the names summary that you think your relatives fit in with, you send the person that entered it an e-mail via GR. At the side of that name will appear the works LINKED. Then if the person you have e-mailed agrees that you link, they will hopefully, give you acces to view their tree, and you can do the same! Hope that makes sense, if not I am sure some young blood will put me right!! Margaret

Hi Margaret - my grey cells are all fuzzy - too many late nites on here lol. I have made contact with someone who DEF. a rellie - she has sent me stuff by post - but hasn't allowed me to view her tree, but on the contacts page there is the option on the details to link anyway - just not sure wot the 'domino' effect will be if i hit the link!

I have people on my contacts list that have access to my tree and I to theirs, but we are not linked, the option to do so still remains- I do not really know what will happen either, but it has to be more than just allowing them to view.

Hi Anne, I chose the link option - had to specify which member of my tree the link was on. Now on my tree a little chain link symbol appears in that relative's box. If I click on the chain symbol I go straight to the linked tree. Don't think it would work if we hadn't allowed each other access to trees. Judith

Hi, My 'link' symbol appeared without me seemingly doing anything. The other person contacted me about a name in my tree, and it turned out that we were related through my great grandmother. Then the 'link' appeared next to that name on my name summary. Unless GR have changed this option in some way, I don't know anymore than that. Hope you find the answer, let us know if you do!! Thanks for your replies - and thanks for taking time to help this 'idiot' lol. It's becoming clearer now - just don't want to do anything that would be considered 'out of order' by hitting the link. Ann :)
