My grandmother left Germany in the late 40's, early 50's when she married my grandfather. She moved with him to Wales. I'm trying to find her family. Where's the best place to start? I have two family names of Mertens and Hand...where next?

I'd start by finding her marriage certificate. With luck, it will give her father's name and occupation, as well as her age, which will make it easier to find her birth certificate. Is there anyone in the family who would have any documents about her? Nell
