Rod My hubby had rhumatic fever as a child & thankfully has no problems now, however even though he has had teeth extracted in the past, the first time he was asked about if he had this condition, was at an emergency dentist on holiday in this country. He had to have antibiotics before they extracted the tooth. Its funny that all dentists dont ask the same questions and that having a toothache on holiday could possibly save his life in the future (as we now know to ask for antibiotics in a simular situation ) Elaine x

Hi Vanessa May be abit of truth in what your relatives suggest for reasons for death - Chronic Rheumatic Heart Disease,as already mentioned can cause mitral valve incompetance, "weakening" the heart in child birth, also teeth extraction can cause a bacterial endocarditis (inflammation of the heart from bacteria entering bloodstream during tooth extraction) Now a days anyone suffering from valve disease or have had Rheumatic fever in past are given Prophylactic antibiotics before any dental work Rod

Vanessa Glad to have been of some use! I often tell my husband that you can only decipher the info on a certificate when you already know what it is supposed to say! LN

You are both brilliant!!! Yes now on looking at it, it certainly does look like miltral and aortic disease. Thank you both. Funny how clearer words look when you have an idea what to look for!!!

Vanessa This is just a guess - could the mil*al be mitral? Mitral is a word describing the heart. Rheumatic fever can weaken the heart and there is a form of rheumatic carditis which is an inflammation of the heart. The (s)o(r)tic is tricky, especially as you aren't sure of the first letter. Following from the theory about her heart, could it be "aortic" - meaning the aorta, the main blood vessel from the heart which runs down the trunk of the body and splits into the leg blood vessels? on a recently received death certificate i have the cause of death as "Chronic Rheumatic mil*al and (s)o(r)tic disease" Can anyone figure out what this is meant to be?? She was 41 when she died. Relatives have told me two different versions of her death - one - childbirth but i can find no record of a child birth/death at this time and two - having her teeth out!! Any help would be appreciated.
