It could just be a name - there's this chap on the 1881 census and the IGI has another one born in the 1830s. Lord J. Melvyn, I would love to claim him as a rellie on the husbands side, thats if he isnt complicated like my lot. The name is a Hugenot name originally De lacy, many still keep the original spelling but my husbands lot obviously didnt, its a popular name her in Ireland, from Lord Hugh De Lacy. A descendant of the great Walter de Lacy of the Conquest of England, Gilbert de Lacy had a son, Hugh de Lacy. Hugh became the first Viceroy of Ireland, Governor of Ireland and the Lord Palatinate of Meath. Hugh was one of the conquerors of Ireland during the Norman Conquest of Ireland. I am looking for information on Lord Lacey he appears on a marriage cert that i have got but i have no other information on him. Can anyone tell the best place to look I have looked one the Burkes website but nothing comes up.
