Was your lady literate, was she baptised in the same parish as that in which she was married, and (if it was a Cof E marriage) who married her? Was it the usual vicar? Some vicars did not take kindly to the new registers and did not fill in all the boxes, or were slipshod and forgot. If your lady could not read or write, she might not spot the omission. Brenda

Hi. If you have found a baptism in the parish records, then you would have found the fathers name. Why not see if you can find a marriage for this couple in the same parish registers and then work forward and see if there was any other children. One of her siblings may have been a witness on her marriage certificate. Mary

Hi, It was considered so "shameful" not to have a father that often illegitimate people invented fathers for their marriage certs. So I think it would be unlikely that she would want to be seen as illegitimate if she wasn't. Gwynne

I received a marriage cert that has no father entered for the wife. I cannot find an illegitimate birth for this lady. I have found a legitimate christening record at just the right time [1819] and in just the right area. Is there any reason she may have left her father's name off the cert that anyone can think of....or am I just wishful thinking?? Appreciate any suggestions.
