Hi I would like to know too. The only site that's free that I've found so far for Scotland is Family Search. I've found quite a few ancestors on it so far. Scotland's People is brilliant but pay per view. You could try the family history society for the area you are looking in. The information they have online really varies from group to group but I've found useful stuff in Aberdeen and North East and also Fife. Have you tried searching the Family Search IGI using the Hugh Wallis search facility? It lets you narrow down your search to a specific locality instead of searching the whole country.
