I don't see why it would not be allowed. At my wedding in 1998 we had my mother and my mother in law as witnesses.

I have one certificate with an aunt as a witness. Several certificates with the father's signature, but he was the church warden, so perhaps he was allowed to do that. William, the church warden, also signed for others, perhaps who didn't have witnesses.

Hi, It was possible for fathers to be witnesses. I have entries with fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. But I also have entries where the witnesses are no relation. Gwynne

I'm tryin to find marriage records and hoping the witness names may help. In one or two it looks as though the father of the groom was a witness. Has anyone a similar situation/ Was it allowed? Thanks. Joan
