It's pretty 'lucky' to have a convicted criminal in your tree. An awful lot of information will be available on them which does not exist for nice, law abiding people such as height, weight, colour of eyes and complexion plus, by 1901, a photograph. The Home Office records are at Kew and you should be able to find what you want there. Regards Sean

Wandsworth Prison is run by the Home Office Prison Service. You could write to the Home Office at Queen Anne's Gate London SW 1 and see whether they are prepared to giveyou any information from their records. (My guess is that they will still have some information on prisoners from the 1900s). Elwyn

I have found what could be my great grandfather in Wandsworth prison on the 1901 census. He is the only James Dawson, born in Durham on there. Can anyone tell me how I can find out if it is him? Thanks Michelle
