One of my cousins has put her family tree on GC and opened it up to me, and there are quite a lot of people on it that I want to transfer onto my tree (also on GC). Is there a quick way of doing this or do I have to painstakingly transcribe all the information individually into my tree? Tina

Well... You could get your cousin to download his/her tree in GEDCOM format... you could then, in theory, merge this with your own tree using some form of family tree program on your PC, and then upload the merged version. If you don't have a Family Tree package... and don't want one... then I guess it's just a case of doing it manually. Saying that... isn't there a "link" function on this site ? Must admit I haven't used it myself... The other thing I'd say is.. don't beleive implicitly in other people's research... check your acts, as sometimes they don't get it all right !!!

Thanks, Paul, guess I shall just have to do it the hard way. Yes, there is a link function and our trees our linked, but if I then open my tree up to someone else, would they be able to see what was on my cousin's tree that I had not transcribed into mine? It's too hot to think this out! Tina

Hi Paul Another point about getting the names on to my own tree relates to your very good point about checking up on other people's research. I know where my cousin got her info from, and it was via yet another cousin in the USA. He obviously did a lot of research, but I have no idea where he got his information from. I know the names are correct, because of my own family knowledge. Where he got the dates from I am less sure. There are one or two things I would like to correct when I transcribe them - which is a good reason to put them on myself! Thanks for your input. Tina
