Hi, I am hoping to interview my relatives in the coming weeks on video, in the hope that I can capture the funny stories and expressions that I wouldn't be able to convey by writing. I also thought it would interesting in years to come, becasue I know how I feel when I see photos of my ancestors and I hope my great great grandchildren would be able to have a link to the past. I was wondering if anyone else had tried doing this and how successful they had been... or if anyone has any tips I would be grateful Thanks Anna xx

Hi Anna I haven't done it, but what a great idea, shall certainly think about doing that myself. Thanks for the idea. Lynda

Lynda, I am hoping to make it into type of documentary. I am hoping that if my grandparents talk about their parents or places they have lived I can add their voices and memories whilst showing old photos or even clips from major world events........... I think i'm getting a bit carried away now!! Take Care Anna PS I believe Microsoft Movie maker is fairly good for this sort of thing!!

We have my husband's grandfather on video, talking in Welsh. No idea what he is saying, but we have his gestures, voice etc. I would suggest that you have your video copied onto CD so it can be stored/sent via computer. Probably you would need to let people "rehease" a bit so they aren't put off and go tongue-tied when you point the camera at them - and get them to announce at the beginning who they are and what the date is! Labels have a way of getting lost. Have fun. Helen

What a fantastic Idea : ) I usually tape the stories of my rellies in an interviewing format - but this sounds so much better. I wonder how many would feel comfy in front of the cam recorder? Guess I could perch it out of sight so it's unobtrusive, so they ( we ) arent consious of it being there. Gonna watch this thread for more tips : ) Good luck Anna Much happiness Debi

Anna.... Video interview are a terrific idea! I've done it myself and took some of those old reel type movies, transferred them to my PC, burned them to CD and added them to my family tree CD. I handed out about a hundred copies to family members at our last family reunion and they were a hit! I did the same with audio tapes I had, too! Now everyone can enjoy the memories and our family history. Judy
