Terri, I'd be looking for City of London/Whitechapel/Spitalfields/Bethnal Green mostly, and I'm most interested in using it for 1891 and 1901 lookups. Still deciding whether it's worth it, are those areas well covered?

Also, don't forget that the LDS familysearch dot org site has the US 1880 census on free of charge. Not sure if this may be of use. Plus, they have ancestral file and pedigree file if you are lucky that someone else may have already done the research you are looking for. Just an idea..... Joanne

Hi Both - thanks, Sammy - have managed to get free trial on US Census with my other card, but I dont think it is giving ALL the information that would otherwise be available - can't find anything past the death of my 2 uncles - can't find any marriage records and I know I have a cousin, so one of them got married at least!! Sylvia - thanks for the tip re Ellis Island, I will give it a go!

Anne, No. They make you subscribe to each one of their parts separately. I first had a 2 week free trial of the US site, and at the same time had a free trial on the UK site, then I had to phone personally to get them to remove the US from my credit card. Luckily with only 1 aunt moving to the US and no children, I had achieved all I needed within a week. Now I find that they have obituaries, newspapers, and several others, some of which might be useful (or not!). But you cannot access them unless you upgrade your membership. The US is really expensive, the UK was less than half the price (I'm in Canada so it's no use me giving you the dollar amounts I paid). If you are looking for family who might have emigrated to the US, don't forget the Statue of Liberty site - it's free, and you can find out all kinds of details about the passengers (ellisisland . org) (close up spaces).

Do you have another credit card Anne? If so you can have another free trial, use it for the US site I had 2 free trials before I subscribed for a year Sam

I am considering subscribing to Ancestry(.)com in pursuit of my US family ties - does anyone know if that will then give me full access on the UK side of the site or do you need separate subscriptions? Have already tried the 14 day free trial on UK but it wont allow you to trial the US side once you've done tha :(
