Can anyone tell me how to find out about a family in St. Pancras area of London from about 1840 to 1885? Viv

Hi Viv, Your starting point would be census records. Regards Rosemarie

If you go on the LDS site you will be able to view the 1881 census records for free. www.familysearch.org Best of luck, Margaret

Viv Depends on what you already know and what you want to find out. Census records will give household details. You can also do a search on FreeBMD for all births, marriages and deaths in the St Pancras district with whichever surname you are looking for. Helen

Thank you all, just wanted someone to jog my memory as to what to do. Have done 1881 census but think I now need to post on Records for lookups. Viv.

try freeCEN too, I seem to recall that they have transcribed lots from St. Pancras http://freecen.rootsweb(.)com/

Thanks Bob, I had a look but 1891 is the year for St. Pancras and that is too late. It was kind of you to suggest it though. Thanks again Viv.

why not try ancestry's 1871 census. they've transcribed london & middlesex. you can do pay as you view now, rather than forking out £25 for 3 months (although it's probably cheaper to do that if you're looking at it a lot) stew
