Hi Wendy, thank you so much. Will be ordering that book asap. Hubby's line moved to Swansea before settling down in Bristol. Through GC we have found one family member still living in Swansea. Just think, our respective families probably knew each other. Thanks again for all your help Trish

Hello Trish, The book is called "The book of Dulverton,Brushford,Bury and Exebridge" compiled by Dulverton and District Civic Society. a Halsgrove publication. ISBN 1 84114 1798. email:[email protected] [am I allowed to put that in?] My Nethercotts begin with James base born s/o Alice 1795. His children rapidly populated Dulverton, and daughter Maria married a Chilcott [popular name in the area]. Our line ended up in Newport,Mon. regards Wendy

Thanks Wendy, that's a great help. We may well pop down soon and have another look at Dulverton. The book sounds like it's worthwhile buying. Can you tell me what its actual title is please and the publishers? Didn't think we would be lucky enough to find the name we were after in the book but it was worth a shot. Sounds like your husbands family was quite large for such a little village. If I come across anything that mentions them I'll let you know. Thanks again.

I have found another photo of the Lamb Hotel c.1930. It is next door to Thorne Bros., outfitters. The photo looks to me like the High Street. I suggest you contact the Civic Society of Dulverton---I don't have the full address, but they were very helpful when we visited. They have old photos etc and are full of enthusiasm. Sorry, no mention of your name[s] in the book. Strangely enough our Nethercotts were in Rosemary Lane in 1861---this is behind the High Street. It appears to consist of only about 3 houses, and I think all were occupied by members of the Nethercott family! Wendy

Thanks Wendy, you're an angel :-)) I'd never have thought that the High Street would have been called Back Street. As for The Lamb, I don't suppose they mentioned any housing behind it? The name we're looking for is MORRELL (or variations including MORLE). We have been to Dulverton just at the start of this year but only found this proof recently - typical!! Perhaps we'll have another wander down there some weekend.

I have a book on Dulverton as my husband's ancestors are from there! There is a photo entitled "High Street [Back Street] before modernisation". So that is one answer---High Street was Back Street. There is also a photo of the Lamb Hotel, no address given. There is the information that "The Lamb Family and Commercial Hotel [Posting House] not only stabled horses but provided considerable livery for local people as well as visitors. The Lamb Yard was for a very long period under the care of Charlie Hoskins". If you have other questions re old Dulverton I will have a look for you. Some people are named --not mine sadly. What name[s] are you seeking? Wendy

Hi Helen, this would be from the 1861 Census

Trish I googled and there is a Lamb Court in Dulverton, presumably built over the original pub. What year are you talking about?

Found some rellies living "2 houses behind The Lamb" in Dulverton. I know Dulverton a bit but don't know where The Lamb is - can anyone help please? Also, some more rellies were living in Back Street, Dulverton. I've found Fore Street but no Back Street!!
