Thank you everyone for all you've done - will follow up all info. However - what am I doing wrong? Why can you all find things and I can't - I must be daft or something! Any tips? Thanks again Lisa

Hi Lisa On the 1901 census, there is a 14 year old Daisy Stinchcombe born in Yate, living with her grandparents, Giles B and Mary A Bleaker in Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire. In the same house are the Bleakers' daughter (another Mary) aged 23, along with their 4 sons, William, Ruben, Giles and Fred. Could this be your Daisy? Pat T

LISA, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TOO MUCH TROUBLE TRACING THAT BRANCH OF YOUR TREE. WHAT AN UNUSUAL NAME! EASIER THAN MY KELLYS FROM IRELAND AND JONES FROM WALES. HAPPY SEARCHING. MAUREEN

Actually you can order from the GRO by snail mail without the reference but it costs a tad more.

Lisa You need the GRO number to order the certificate from the ONS in Southport, which you can do online. You don't need it if you order from the local register office, but you must know which register office to apply to. Either way, how you find the birth depends a bit on when and where. Do you have an idea of the year and place of Daisy's birth? Helen

How do you find a birth cert if you don;t know the GRO reference for it? Or, if you are trying to find a birth cert and know name mothers name, date of birth, place of birth where is the best place to start? I'm such a beginner at this, sorry! Lisa Thanks to all - dob is 29/01/1888 place Union Workhouse Yate I know the certificate exists because someone I used to be intouch with had a copy - unfortunately we're no longer in touch and I lost the one she sent me - just so frustrating that I can't seem to track it down anywhere.
