Sergeant or Journalist??

I have just received the marriage cert for my grandfather, who's profession in 1945 is listed as "Sergeant 6470034 Royal Armoured Corps (Journalist)". Where should I be looking for information?? I've tried looking for the RAC on google, but it doesn't give any details about journalists, and I'm confused as to how the ranking system works in this case. Am I right in thinking that he was still a serving officer if his rank and number are quoted? And would the address he gives be his personal address (the buildings on that road now appear to be flats, but I can't find any info relating to prior use or occupancy)

Sarah The address would be where he was living at the time of the marriage - it could be lodgings, barracks, house who knows. Sometimes people used convenience addresses for the purpose of having the banns read. As to his occupation, I imagine that in 1945 he still hadn't been demobbed, so he was a Sergeant. Presumably journalist was what he did in civilian life before he was called up. Don't know about the army side, but you could check if the National Union of Journalists has any old records. Helen

Thanks Helen - I'll try that. To confuse things even more, a year later his occupation is quoted as 'Company Secretary' with a completely different address - I've been able to find that address on a search as it is part of a conservation area, so I've emailed to see if I can get some details about what kind of company it may have been. Hopefully that might shed some light on things, but, knowing my luck, it will just confuse the issue even more! lol

Thank you Gary - I really don't know much about this type of stuff - I don't even know how to work out which unit he was with (the Royal Armoured Corps website says there are 12 regiments, but I have no idea how to find out which one! lol) I suppose that should be my starting point :o)
