I found a family on the 1881 census on LDS site some time ago. I printed off the family details but not the batch number etc. I now want to try and find out who gave the information so I have just done another search and they are not there!! Has this ever happened to anyone else? Lynne

Lynne Give us the details, perhaps we can find them again!

When you say lds 1881, do you mean they were on the census pages or on the Igi/ pedigree search? it depends which search page you were using i think , unless you are searching "all resources." Post the names and we'll hunt for them too! Kim

If someone died in 1857, they probably weren't on 1881. Does this look familiar? Margaret Hodges Female Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 29 JUL 1818 Manchester, Lancashire, England Christening: Death: APR 1857 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: William Hodges Family Mother: Mrs. Elizabeth Hodges -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: Kathaniel Peyton Family Marriage: 03 FEB 1845

Geoff Of course, you are right it couldn't have been 1881!! All 8 children including the 6 who died young are on my list. Can't think where I got it from??? The record for Margaret is the right one as I have her date of birth and death. I didn't have her marriage though so thanks very much for that. Lynne

Geoff I've just done an IGI search and they came up. Only trouble is I have no idea how to find out who gave the information. Does anyone know please? Thanks Lynne

Lynne - BEWARE - it is also alleged on IGI that Margaret Hodges (29/7/18, Manchester) married Frederick Cook. Check 'em all and try and find some other evidence.

Geoff I can't find that one - what year was it? Lynne

Lynne All of the IGI entries for Margaret's birth are member submissions, and therefore suspect! The only one that I would place any reliance on is the christening entry for 13 Sept 1818 at Cathedral, Manchester which is a controlled extract from the parish register. In any event I would doublecheck with a microfilm copy of the parish register.

Thanks David, I will check it before I presume it's correct. Geoff, I've looked again for the other marriage but cannot find it, help please. Lynne

Lynne The various birth entries for Margaret which were made by church members contain various other snippets of information, which may or may not resemble reality. One has her death as being Apr 1857, with a marriage on 3 Feb 1845 to Kathaniel (sic) Peyton; the other entries have her spouse as Frederick Cook, with no marriage date, and one has a date of 14 May 1839 but doesn't say what it refers to! Another has her mother as being Esther Elizabeth Capon. At best these extra bits of information should be taken as hints pointing you in the right direction with everything being checked. My experience of member submissions on the IGI is that they should be taken with a large pinch of salt - many are of the wishful thinking variety!

I also bet that Temima is a misreading of Jemima!
