Help. How do i find out if someone was buried or c

I have recieved my Bio Grandfather death cert. He died in 1964 in Sefton General Hospital (no longer exists). Any suggestions on how i find out if he was buried or cremated. I have already tried local council Cementries and found nothing. Any help or advise apprecaited Sue

Hello Sue - have you tried the local crematorium (probably the one nearest to the last known address of the deceased) As you have the death cert. and the date of death, I would start looking about 7 days after that date - ring or write to the crematorium and ask them to check their records for that period, giving the full name of the deceased and his age. If none of the local cemeteries have been able to help you then its likely that he was cremated. Jacqui

Hello I have tried to find out something similar recently, so that my family could put a headstone on a family grave. I was told that if someone was cremated the crematorium would have the records of what happened afterwards. The cemetary (separate from the crematorium) that I contacted said that if ashes were not interred in a grave but just scattered in a garden of rememberance they held no records. I have also found that you need to be quite precise as to when the person died as (in my case anyway), the records are not computerised. I am still missing several members of my family (female), which do not appear to have been buried with their husbands/rest of family! Rather odd! Hope you have better luck than me! Leigh
