I have been trying to find a family but cant find any trace on the 1881 census using the LDS on line. If I looked at the original census held in the local records office do you think I might find them on there. Could they have been missed off when transcibing from the original to the computer records?

I have tried diff spellings but you are welcolme to have a go. i am pretty sure they should be living in Manchester/salford. I cant find any birth certs or marriage certs for any of these. George William Beresford or William George b c 1849 Butterton, Staffs possibly living in Salford or Manchester he would be head of household occ Carter. Wife Annie born Ireland sons John Christopher dob 1880/81 born poss Manchester Anne born c1878

Gillian Could this be the right birth reference: Berisford, George William Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1849 District: Ashton Volume: 20 Page: 3 Beresford, Anne Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1879 District: Stafford County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 17 Unable to locate Ashton as Genuki is unavailable at the moment, but on FreeBMD there is a reg. district Ashton under Lyme, which I think is Staffordshire? I have looked on 1881 LDS site for all George Williams and William Georges b. 1849 in Staffs but nothing has come up matching your other details. How sure are you that he was a carter, and of his children's names/dobs? Also, that they would be in Lancs. Helen

1901 census shows William Beresford b Butteron c 1849 living in Salford with is daughter Annie b Manchester c 1878 and his wife Annie b Ireland. John Christopher is husbands grandfather and his army records show him born Hulme, Manchester 1881. Diff certs for these children and others show fathers name as either William or george. This family before the 1st world war are very elusive. Thanks for your time. xxxx Aston under Lyne is in Manchester by the way going over towards stalybridge.

Gillian Sorry, my mistake! Is it possible the family would be in Ireland during 1881 census visiting Annie's family? I don't seem to be able to find any Annies born Ireland on census who fit the details, nor can I find Ann or John christopher. However, don't give up. I found my elusive Matthews relatives eventually with a lot of help and detective work.
