IF SOMEONE DIED IN THE FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WARS ARE THEY STILL REGISTERED AS USUAL ON THE 1837 ON LINE RECORDS OR IS THERE ANOTHER PLACE I SHOULD BE CHECKING? MANY THANKS BRIDGET

Hello Bridgette. The only place you can get details of the war dead is from Registers held at the Family Record Centre in Middleton Sytreet in London. The people at 1837 online ( a private company) are in the process of scanning these records, and they should soon be on their site but they are not there yet. CWGC will give you some details when you look the dead person up, but not enough to get a certificate. Good hunting. Keith

If they were in uniform at the time they are usually listed in separate indexes that are in the process of being scanned. If they were civilians, they are normally listed in the usual way and the details should be on the available indexes. Civilian war dead are listed in some cases on cwgc where the death was caused by enemy action, especially in WW2 Paul
