Hi, I have just been on the British 1881 census and found the above as a Birthplace. On the 1891 census the birthplace for the same person is IRL. Would anybody kindly know on what or where this person was born? Many thanks. Debbie

Hi Debbie, I think that must be Spike Island, nr Cobh, County Cork Ireland (IRL). Spike Island is a Prison these days (Open Prison) but it was a British Army Base pre 1922 anyone born there may be son/daughter of Military Personnel posted and lived there. Hope I am right after all that.

Oops sorry Debbie N.S. could mean Navy Services, I think it was the Navy that was stationed there. Pat
