I just went out on a limb and bought a years subscription. Cant be fussed with these free trials, but at least I knew what was on there, I had 3 months last year. I am a bit confused though. The OP stated that the timing is US, so surely the start time would be the same, or have I missed something.

Well, I can't subscribe at all because they only accept Visa or Mastercard for payment, neither of which I have - and they don't reply to e-mails! David

Hi All :) .........comments duly noted, thanks. Pleased to say that I received a very nice email back from their customer relations chappie, confirming that my card would not be charged. Am now a slightly more relieved, happy bunny lol.

I didn't get any emails when I used my AOL address either. I cancelled two days before my free trial ran out because I was wary. Be warned though - before, my AOL address was spam-free. Since I used it to join Ancestry, the spam has started arriving.

I had a 14 day free trial. They e mailed me a couple of days before it ended to say the quarterley sub would start and money would be taken. I then had an e mail around 10 days ago to say another sub would be taken next week. I have had no trouble with this. When I did a free trial last year using an aol e mail address I had none of these e mails and used their contact us link to cancel, again no problem and a confirming e mail back within an hour. I wonder if the aol address was somehow preventing their e mails getting to me. Diane

FOR THOSE OF YOU (LIKE MYSELF) WHO HAVE TAKEN THIS UP RECENTLY ON ANCESTRY.COM, IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO PAY THE FULL ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION - BEWARE! THE DAY AND TIME THAT YOU REGISTER IS BASED ON US TIMINGS - APPROX. SOME 5 HOURS BEHIND UK TIME. I REGISTERED AT 12.15AM ON JULY 12TH, EXPECTING TO BE ABLE TO CANCEL IT BEFORE THAT TIME ON JULY 24TH - WRONG! MY REGISTRATION DATE WAS CLASSED AS JULY 11TH, AND I HAVE GONE ON THIS EVENING TO CANCEL ONLY TO FIND THAT THE ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION HAS ALREADY BEEN PROCESSED AND MY CREDIT CARD CHARGED! I HAVE EMAILED TO REQUEST A REFUND IN HOPE, EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AS I HAVE ANOTHER MONTH'S WORTH OF FREE TRIAL WITH MY NEW SOFTWARE AND DONT REALLY WANT TO BE PAYING FOR IT JUST YET. THERE WAS NO WARNING TO INTERNATIONAL USERS AT THE REGISTRATION PROCESS, SO TAKE NOTE ALL YOU WHO HAVE REGISTERED.
