I'm trying to find out which regiment (WW2) my Grandfather served with but have no documents and I can't see any identifying badges on the two photo's I've got of him in uniform. My Grandfather died when my Dad was very young so he doesn't know much! Dad seems to think he was in the Kings Own Rifles but I can't find a reference to this regiment - is it the Kings Royal Rifle Corps? We think he was based in Winchester and served under F. M. Montgomery in Africa. I have some lovely photo's/postcards from India and various locations in Europe but nothing is written on any of them!! I know I need a trip to the library to see if I can find him under absent voters but if anyone can give me a clue in the meantime I'd be really grateful. Thanks Michelle

There were: The King's and Manchester Regiment's King's Own Royal Border Regiment King's Own Royal Regiment King's Own Scottish Borderers King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry King's Royal Hussars King's Royal Rifle Corps King's Shropshire Light Infantry That's all I can find with Kings - as you can see a bit of a problem unless any of them rings a bell.

Hi Michelle The Kings Royal Rifle Corps depot was at Peninsula Barracks in Winchester, the regiments museum is in the Royal Green Jackets museum in Winchester and there is a Regimental war memorial in Winchester Cathedral. Hope this helps. Malcolm

Hi, My uncle was in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. They were a London based regiment but took people from all over the country. My uncle served in N. Africa and Palestine with them. He spent much of his time driving a Bren Gun Carrier or Universal Carrier as they were sometimes known. Good Luck with your searches xx Dave

Hi Fred The Kings Royal Rifle Corps was formed in1755 and took the title 60th Regiment of Foot (Kings Royal Rifles) in 1830 becoming the KRRC in 1881. the Regiment amalgamated with the Oxs & Bucks LI and the Rifle Brigade in 1958 to form The Green Jackets Brigade later becomeing The Royal Green Jackets in 1966. The Green Howards is a Yorkshire based infantry regiment. The Irish regiment you may be thinking of is the Royal Irish Rifles, Malcolm
