1861 census

Lynne Census returns are arranged by place, street, building. In order to find a relative you need preferably an exact address, but otherwise you have to search all the records for a particular area. I believe the 1861 census has been partially indexed but I don't know which parts! I do know from personal experience that it is quite time-consuming without an index. I have looked on the microfilm censuses at the family record centre in London going through about 2-300 families in a village to find my relatives and trying to decipher very faint handwriting. Not an easy task. There are place indexes at the FRC which will tell you which number microfilm you need for a village. Each microfilm covers quite a large area. Perhaps if you posted who you are looking for and where someone may be able to help you.

Does anyone know of the 1861 census of England and Wales? Do I need an area to be able to search it? I have a feeling that the census is broken up into different areas, if so, how many of them are they and where can I search them? Thank you to anyone who knows any/all of the answers to my questions!
