What exactly does "Not Certified" mean

For some reason I am unable to cut and paste answer. Uncertified means the dead person has not been attended by a doctor. Don't know why I can't cut and paste but type Barbara's Certificate tutorial into search engine and you will hopefully find the website. Helen

Thanks for your help - will nip off to that site to have a look. I too have had certificates which have stated "found dead" and the worse thing about them is that they never seem to state the name of who found them and so you can't find the relatives name.

Gen Thanks for putting up that link, I had never heard of that site before I have just been reading all about certs and cannot believe half the stuff, its incredible, I thought certs would be more trustworthy than census, but dont think that now. Ive added the site to my favourites. Vanessa, hope you find an answer its terrible that it just says not certified.

Just found this hope it explains: It is still possible to have a death not certified by a doctor in which case it is still the informant who is supposed to tell the registrar what the cause of death was. If you have a death certificate without the name of a certifiying doctor and it was not a post mortem or an inquest then you have an uncertified death. I have just received a death certificate and in the column for cause of death I'm pretty sure it says "Not Certified" but what exactly does that mean???
