Medical Corps-Lost his stars?

Hi Helena It sounds to me as if he was demoted. losing the stars or pips of his rank insigna. Malcolm

Just visited the fabulous new museum in Surrey. Found reference to my ggrandfather David James Gillman who had an Unfavourable annual report in 1900 (whist posted in South Africa) the result of which ment 'loss of stars', any idea what this would mean. There is also reference to correspodence relating to 'debt' with a reference number 4838/895, do you think I can follow this route some how. The good news is he reached the rank of Hon Major in 1904!
